WTB - Chequered sisal floor mats NB8B

Postby Fentongove » Sun Apr 22, 2012 10:09 pm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how/where to get a set of what I think are really cool sisal chequered floor mats for an NB8B. I've heard they can be pretty pricey, but I really like them.

If you provide a picture it might be helpful.
I've only seen the NB RS floor mats (as well as the M2 NA chequered mats of course) but you may find some if you look on Yahoo Japan auctions (English translation available via ImportMonster), other forums or maybe a sponsor like Rev9.

Good luck with the search; Maybe you can get lucky when someone else imports a NB for race use. Maybe Chris Gough at MX5 racing or other MX5 importers can also help.

Have you done all of this? I guess most people here would like these mats; it just requires a lot of searching!

cocomats.com make really nice ones

mine were $200 inc. postage and they're literally an inch thick in the heel pad but otherwise they're great

Are these what you are looking for?

Dan (Rupewrecht) on the AstinaGT forum imports a lot of JDM stuff, including MX-5 gear/parts. Check there often as new stuff is arriving all the time.

Bear in mind, Japanese floor mats tend to be a lot more plush than ours for some reason.
Most of the floormats on Aussie cars tend to be a tight loop pile, where the Japanese mats tend to be a deep cut pile.
Worth being aware of if you're likely to get mud on them at all.

There's also the textured chequer that was available on the Japanese NB:

(mine are from a 10AE, but there was also a Black version for the normal cars)

Thanks everyone. Tracked down what appears to be a great secondhand supplier in Melbourne - just got to decide on color combination.

Thanks aka_juffa - it was through the guy on the astinagt link you sent me above. I wasn't going to let the cat out of the bag until I had decided on the grey/black or blue/black pair, but as it is difficult to decide, if someone else gets in ahead of me, then the remaining color combination was meant to be!!

If you're concerned about losing the mats just contact Dan (Rupe) and see if he's happy to take a deposit on one, or both.

He's a great guy to deal with, I get all my jap bits from him.

Including a box of Japanese newspapers!!!!
(well.... it had a gauge cluster in it, but the Japanese news was interesting too!)

Just showed my son the two options at astinagt and he thought the blue and black for our crystal blue? I think I agree, but it was great to see that for the first time in his 13 year old history he didn't choose the expensive ones!!

Thanks Jace... rupewrecht is who I'm dealing with. Even if we don't do a deal this time around, his stuff looks brilliant.

Frock a duck. :o

If you need to spend $150 on friggin floor mats you need to get a life. Pick up some black ones at Supercheap and spend the rest on petrol or a wheel alignment.

We have to draw a line in the sand against 'hairdresser' issues. Coconut freakin mats.

Well, one could argue that about anything.

If you need to spend $10,000 on an MX5 you need to get a life. Pick up a Falcon for cheap and spend the rest on fuel.
