I think when I got the MX5 the soft-top was a con. It has been slashed twice. Which is a con. But on the whole, I think I look at as a bonus now. I do quite like the odd top down drive.

In 2-3 years time the MX5 might also have the VW Bluesport to contend with as well - I believe that's still going ahead ?

tactile approach and drive well- people should get out a little more- there are many small / medium sedans in the market place and at very reasonable prices. But they are not top down LW sports cars. I well understand people wanting tin tops but then they are probably 95% of the car park at least. If MX5 does go at least it will be available 2nd hand for many years-it has had a great innings. Still the most fun car I have owned. As far as I am aware we are MX5 followers not Toyota promoters.

I read in the media this morning that VW was considering the Bluesport because VW didn't know if its brand could ask a price higher than an Audi TT for a RR sports car. VW said that rear-engine placement forces the cost to be well above the FRS.

I spent this weekend driving a new Honda Civic Sport. The wheel was nice and small... that's where the pros ended. Apparently it has VTEC, i saw no evidence of that. And it certainly has no feel.

That's kind of annoying. It's gone from an indicated $35K+ to $40K, and now $40K+. :(

It'll be $50K by the time it hits the road!

People who want a sporty little runabout will go for the Toyota, people who know Sports Cars will still buy the MX-5.

How can anyone put money down on something where you don't know what the final cost is going to be ? Seems like a real gamble.

A lot of people feel how I do.

They feel that this is the first proper Jap sports car in years, and that there will be an entire aftermarket for it, for whatever part they desire.

I doubt it, the T Model Ford would hold that record.

Not a Sports Car, doesn't come close to Sports Car by any definition, it has a fixed roof! Sporty, Sports Coupe, it's a 2+2!
