Gum tree Spotted - cheap mx5 Gold Coast

Postby Crooz » Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:56 pm

I hope you guys don't mind me posting this on here.
Saw this on gumtree last week and thought it was an extremely good price for '90 with 94k kms.

Here's the link: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/palm-bea ... 1000295228

Something about it seems a bit iffy though for some reason. Such low km's for such a low price. Might be worth a look!

Not sure if its just me, but the driver side door looks like its been hit. The shut lines arent that great. But the colour of the car looks great imo.

Might be cheap because of an accident only, kms could be legitimate.

Import so can't be 100% sure on KMs. That said, interior looks to be generally reflective of KMs.. from what I can see in photos.

Caveat Emptor big time!
NA8 wheels on an NA6 and mis-matched parts, will always draw my attention.

I can't say I'm 100% sure it's the same one, but a friend (also a forumite) and myself emailed someone with a similarly described vehicle at a similar location with a similar price, asking a few pertinent questions, and all I got back in reply was "sorry, it's been sold". This was about 5 months ago.

There was also a very similar car at a similar price located at either Logan or Beenleigh.

I didn't enquire about the latter one, and the wording in this ad is very different than the other two I mentioned.

Mariner blue NA's aren't exactly a dime a dozen, and two very cheap ones at nearby locations is a bit too coincidental. Although having said that, it may well be genuine, just go around it with a fine toothed comb.

There was also ANOTHER very cheap blue NA (less than $4,000 IIRC) that was on Gumtree about 8 months ago, panel damage, crappy top, but running engine. It was bought and re-sold here at a profit a few weeks later.
Search on here and you might find it on the 2nd or 3rd page.

So that makes 3 very cheap blue NAs floating around....

PS: If only there was an engine bay shot, I can tell you if it's the one that used to be in Logan/Beenleigh

PPS: yes, the driver side door is misaligned

PPPS: licence plate is VERY recent, within the last few weeks

as above mention about a certain blue NA6 body going around. not sure if the same car but i had a look at an NA6 about 6 months ago in Sunnybank Hills, QLD that was very cheap. had a crap respray, door was misaligned, the engine bay was quite terrible as well. it wasnt even worth $1000 in its condition. and yeah if there is a clear shot of the engine bay im sure a lot of people will recognise if its one that they have seen before

Yup, that's the 3rd car I mentioned. I was going to look at it with a friend, but it was already gone.
It was worth over $1,000 ..... in parts  but at least the seller seemed fairly honest in the description and had several photos.

Re engine bay, the 2nd one I mentioned had all stock engine, except one (or both) of the manual headlight retractor/opener knob covers was missing, and there was a long red wire running across the firewall. I think this wire was for the alarm, as I THINK it had a square horn somewhere.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, there is ANOTHER one, which may or may not be any one of the 3 I mentioned, and yes it's also Mariner Blue, advertised here more than a year ago.
IIRC, this 4th one was located up the Sunshine Coast way, but it was pretty much a repairable write-off (left-front damage) & roof was almost non-existent, but it was clearly photographed and advertised as such.

Let's just face it .... blue cars are crap.
