My SP put out 181RWkW at a club dyno day, and it doesn't have any lag to speak of.
The power builds very smoothly from idle to redline.
Sure, the more you rev it, the more power you have and the ramp speed of the turbo can be adjusted from my HKS boost controller to be anyway you like.
I've had a few people drive the car, and they are amazed that it feels like a big V8 under the bonnet with a very linear power curve, so the car you drove obviously wasn't set up correctly.
I have to admit that the car has more power than it has traction and can feel like a wild animal, but that's the way I like it!
