TOP GEAR ON (PTOOOEY) 9

Postby miata » Mon Feb 08, 2010 3:10 pm

February 16th at 1930 hrs is the debut of Top Gear. a 2 hour special. So it's probably the regular BBC World 30 minute edited version with the usual "9" ads thrown in.

(The following week, it will be on at 1524 on Friday, and the week after that, at 2311 Monday night. We can't have you "enthusiast types" getting a scheduled program on time on a regular basis! )

Maybe, just maybe, they'll keep it in a regular timeslot. If they do, it will be one of the first programs ever. (Apart from the NEWS but even that gets moved around for the STUPID cricket).

Why would you watch it on commercial TV when you can download a full, unedited 1080 rip 1 year in advance?

Ah maybe because it's illegal.
As the 24 y.o. from Brisbane found out after he uploaded a pirated game to the net. A $1.6 MILLION fine.

Uploading is very different to downloading, did the 50,000 people that downloaded the game from him get fined?

The show is on free to air TV in the UK, so I see no issue with downloading them.

Considering the BBC upload a fair bit of their Top Gear content to yewtube, I don't think they have to much of an issue with people downloading episodes. It's not like they are missing out on income from selling episodes overseas as most fans will download it rather than wait a year for badly sequenced episodes at strange times. The masses however are content with what SBS provided. Channel 9 will kill it though, like all good ABC and SBS programming that goes to the commercials...

The gaming and film industry are hardasses wrt piracy. I've never heard such a thing with pirating weekly tv shows

What a shame you can't embrace new technology, I suppose you still watch on a black and white TV? I have a media PC plugged into my TV, but you can get little black boxes for less than $200 that will do the same, hell even most DVD players with play digital video.

But in the end I don't care, you can enjoy your ad riddled shows

My TV has USB support and plays divx and MKV :D Very handy indeed!

ABC has the right idea, their iView service works great, and it's supported by the PS3... BBC's iPlayer thing is similar
