MX5 Haters

Postby Doug Danger » Tue Mar 20, 2012 5:31 pm

Nearly everyday since I bought my car last month I have had abuse hurled at me for driving an MX5. Today for eg coming back from work in the city I was yelled at from two car lengths away by some tosser with his mate. Also today on the way to work, I got tailgated for about 200m only to have him violently swerve out, drive next to me, say something that I didn't catch, give me the finger and speed off. I guess people would say just ignore it, but even ignoring it afterwards (as I am obviously NOT haha) it doesn't make for a very pleasurable drive. I have thus reached the conclusion that alot people love to hate mx5's, or at least ME in my mx5.

I am a P plater so I guess that could account for some of the unwanted attention, however it never happened when in any of my previous cars.

Has anyone else experienced much hate on the roads?

Edit: should also add the car is completely stock

This subject popps up from time to time.
I think there are many 'haters' out there in Aus.
And it only takes the smallest excuse, as in driving a flamboyant car, to trigger the response.

I get it from time to time, and regularly get tail gated. I put it down to my, Minx's cute rear end.

But when i drive the M6, i simply dont notice it at all, not once in last 18mths.

I think Aussies, and I am one, are getting more selfish and spoiled every year.
Recent trips o/s reinforce this. You sure notice a diferance when you get home, and see what level of service we get here, compared to some modern o/s countries. It is pitifull, and dissapointing.

PS 'P' platers dont do themselves any favours-they are often the ones tail gating or cutting me off.

Yeah I get this sometimes, only with the P plates on.
I think a lot of people (bogans) get really annoyed when they see a P plater in a "nice car", especially a convertible.
not sure jealous is the right word, as bogans deffs don't want to own an mx5, its more they feel "stupid spoiled brat"

Just go around the next corner really fast, they won't be able to keep up

Maybe they got a bad haircut in the morning. And the first hairdresser they see on the road, they just wanna yell at? Maybe their mullet was not cut even?

I have noticed the difference in road courtesies when driving my old maz6 compared to my mx5.

For example, 2 days into owning an mx5, while stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, some guy behind me swerved into a turn lane, just to force his way infront of me. 1 fcuking position. in bumper to bumper traffic.

I've been driving my maz6 for 5 yrs and that has NEVER happened, nor has it happened when I drive my dad's tarago.

This has happened a few times now, always in a shitty commodore or magna.

It happened alot more when my car was stock, but now that it's modded a bit, i've noticed it a bit less. but I still get a lot of idiots who "don't see" my car, changing lanes into me, turning into my path, and cutting me off. I guess it's something you gotta live with when you drive a small car, doesn't help that its lower too.

I just bought a 3D maglite torch, which I'm going to mount inside my car for "emergencies", for when I drive at night with the roof down.

Best thing is to ignore it on the road, and then rage about it at home. Too many stories of road rage, and in an mx you will lose if they use their car as a battering ram.
